As we have an english and a german Version of the Edain Wiki, I was wondering which other language versions could or should be made. After all Wikia makes it possible to create wikis in over 300 Languages and dialects.

So I made this poll to clarify, which languages, of those Wikia offers, are spoken within the international Edain Community. German and English are out, since it is quite obvious, that anyone here speaks one or both of them and we already have wikias in these two languages.

I also assumed that no one here speaks more than ten languages of those listed above, so I limited the maximum number of votes for each person to ten (or is there anyone here, who speaks more than ten?).

Furthermore I'd say languages which are spoken by more than five users, should justify an own wikia. However I won't hinder anyone here starting an Edain Wikia of any language spoken by less than five, on their own.

But before you go out and create new Wikias on your own, here are some rules:
1. the Wikias url should always look this way: languageprefix.edain.wikia.com e.g. a french wikia would be fr.edain.wikia.com
2. not more than one Edain Wikia per language, which should be easily followed, if rule #1 was followed as well. ;).

And of course when you discuss this, stay civil ;).

It seems 315 possible answers are to much let's try it with 67. [ugly]

Sorry for the double post. However I managed to add most of the 315 languages I originally had listed.

Since this messed up the order of the votes, I reseted the poll and I beg the three guys who already answered the Poll to answer it again.

Since 256 seems to be the absolute top of possible answers, we have to count the remaining manually then) .
Please comment if you speak one of the following Languages or if you would like to see a wikia in one of these Languages (to which you would contribute then):

Hi  :)

I just merged a secondary topic involving the Edain Mod WIKIA project with the main one.
I think that this poll should be done always in that same thread, so that everything will be orderly presented to the Edain Community in one single thread.

What do you think?

Well, I am not able to create Polls in existing Threads, who were not created by me. :P

Also the Threads you mentioned are specifically for the English Language Wiki. This Thread askes what other Language versions (other than English and German) should be made. Those are two different although related Topics.
E.g.
What if there would be a thread diskussing the Mod Faction Gondor and a Thread with a Poll asking what other Factions should be there in the Mod. Two different, yet related Topics. Should those two be in one Thread, just cause they are about Factions? I don't think so.
Just cause two threads are about Edain Wikias, it does not mean they have the same topic. Savvy? ;)

Yes, that thread involves mainly the English WIKIA project, but the English Community, theoretically, can also embrace other international topics, since the English Edain Community is also the International Edain Community by extension.
Therefore, I thought that it would have been better gathering and developing ideas in a single main thread which refers to the idea in general of an Edain Mod WIKIA project (as the title of the thread holistically refers to without any limitation).

Furthermore, I always felt that this section, Edain Discussion and Feedback, can easily contain very wide topics due to the very nature of the section itself (with no strict boundaries in length, as because we are also talking about a project in development).
Considering also that the very core of the project is the same whether the language changes or not; so everything is like intertwined.

But, if you feel more comfortable with various different threads, that's totally fine, I was just asking  :)
I'm just one of the Moderators of this forum, and this is only my opinion; and you clearly have more experience than me here, that's why I asked for your considerations  :P
I will thus change the title of the main thread and indicate that it refers primarily to the English project, if it's necessary.

P.S. That comparison with Gondor could have various interpretations.
What about, for example, starting a thread about Humans in general and a poll about the Atani (how the Eldar called Men, in their language and 'immortal perspective')?  xD

EDIT: Oh, no, I can't speak German  :D
I have far German (Austrian) ancestors, but I'm not technically German; I'm 'mainly' Italian.
I chose that name because I really like Wagner and his Art.
Nevertheless, I will have to learn German very soon for academic purposes  ;)

Well I checked your profile after that and read Italian Alps, so i speculated on a south tirolean, although I think a south tirolean probably would have stated South tirol as homeplace in his profile [ugly].

Ok, a majority for French, Spanish, Italian is not much a surprise, yet there are two votes besides mine for each Latin and Ancient Greek. Would definitly be interesting

Just to check, do we actually have people from Mozambique or Zimbabwe here, or was that person joking when he/she clicked on Shona?

A Kenyian who speaks Kikuyu?

A Namibian or Angolan speaking Ndonga?

Shilha, we have a Berber or Berbers from Morocco here?

The Person who checked Northern Sami, do you speak Swedish then, as neither Norwegian nor Finnish are checked. I do not doubt that we could have a Sami here. But since Sami is spoken by less den 30000 people

I'd like to ask all user who've voted here to post in this Thread, so it would be easier for those who checked the same Language(s) to connect.

Exactly  :D
I would have surely written 'South Tyrol' if that had been the case.

What if I told you that I live very closed to the border with Switzerland, German Switzerland (your assumption of my hypothetical knowledge of German could have thus been partially right)?

Good luck with this project  ;)

yet there are two votes besides mine for each Latin and Ancient Greek. Would definitly be interesting
And I'm glad to announce that I'm one of those two. Since I'm studying both languages at university, I'm always interested in actually using them (which I also do in university, but unfortunately, those exercises are very often just retranslations of original Greek/Latin sentences/texts).

So I'd definetely like to contribute to such a project, if there are some other interested persons, too. As far as i have seen, there' s already a Latin translation of the Hobbit (Hobbitus ille), which can be retrieved online (https://latin4everyone.files.wordpress.com/2013/06/hobbitus-ille-the-latin-hobbit-j-r-r-tolkien.pdf) and also offers latinized names like 'Thorinus Scutumquerceum'. I don't know if there's a translated version of the Lord of the Rings, let alone a version translated into Ancient Greek.

At the moment, however, I'm quite busy and will be until at least mid-February. So I'd suggest waiting for a few more participants before starting a Latin-wiki  [uglybunti]
And if there are any doubts concerning such a project, I'd like to resolve them beforehand: In my opinion, even Professor Tolkien would approve of such an idea, since he was a philologist with heart and soul himself, which can be seen everywhere in his writings. By initiating this project we can contribute to preserving these beautiful languages often referred to as "dead".

"Nil sine magno vita labore dedit mortalibus." (Hor. serm. 1,9)

Bei Fragen zu Latein, Altgriechisch und den ägyptischen Sprachen sowie bei etymologischen Spitzfindigkeiten stehe ich gerne via PM zur Verfügung.

Seriously, we are still at the beginning of the German and the English wiki and you already think about a third language?  :D There is still too much to do with the first two languages.

I don't see how this actually conflicts with each other. Chances are that people, who aren't native englisch speakers, let alone german speakers, prefer to work in their own native language, than in a language they're probably hardly proficient in. Also the more languages, the more people the wikia reaches ;).
RPG:
1. Char Alfward bei Dol Guldur.
2. Char Qúsay in Aín Sefra.

Das Wiki zum RPG. Schaut mal ruhig vorbei ;).
